MIAMI – Jan. 23, 2023 – Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL), one of the world’s largest cruise companies, announced today its plans to open an office in Cyprus. The office will be based in Limassol and will support ship operations as the company looks to develop its Eastern Mediterranean business.

The Government of Cyprus has provided invaluable assistance to us, and we are excited to grow our Mediterranean business from Cyprus.”

The opening of an office in Cyprus follows the company’s first commercial sailing from the Port of Limassol in July 2021. This was made possible by a unique and special relationship that was fostered between Royal Caribbean Group, the Cypriot Government and authorities over the past several years, to build a credible long-term cruise business for Cyprus.
As part of Royal Caribbean Group’s presence in the country, the company will flag Spectrum of the Seas under the Cyprus flag. A popular destination, Cyprus welcomed more than four million tourists in 2019. With two airports, one in Larnaca and one in Paphos, the island is well positioned to welcome guests from across Europe and beyond. The Royal Caribbean Group office is scheduled to open in the first half of 2023.

«Χαιρετίζω τη σημερινή ανακοίνωση του Ομίλου Royal Caribbean (βλ. σχετικό σύνδεσμο) με την οποία ενημερώνει για τη δημιουργία γραφείου του Ομίλου στην Κύπρο καθώς και για εγγραφή κρουαζιερόπλοιου στο Κυπριακό Νηολόγιο, και πιο συγκεκριμένα του πλοίου Spectrum of the Seas που από την περασμένη Παρασκευή έχει υψώσει την Κυπριακή σημαία.
Η απόφαση της εταιρείας αποτελεί απτό παράδειγμα του τρόπου που η Κυβέρνηση μετατρέπει την κρίση σε ευκαιρία. Ως γνωστό, η Κύπρος κατά τη διάρκεια της πανδημίας μέσα από συντονισμένες προσπάθειες του Υφυπουργείου Ναυτιλίας, σε συνεργασία με τα Υπουργεία Μεταφορών και Υγείας και το Υφυπουργείο Τουρισμού, είχαν διευκολύνει τον επαναπατρισμό και τις αλλαγές πληρωμάτων πέραν των 65000 ναυτικών ενώ εφαρμόστηκε με μεγάλη επιτυχία το Εθνικό Πρόγραμμα που υιοθετήσαμε για εμβολιαστική κάλυψη 40000 ναυτικών. Τα πιο πάνω μαζί με την εξυπηρέτηση που προσφέραμε έβαλαν την Κύπρο στον παγκόσμιο χάρτη κρουαζιέρας.
Η απόφαση της εταιρείας για δημιουργία μόνιμης έδρας στην Κύπρο η οποία θα αποτελέσει το κέντρο ναυτιλιακών δραστηριοτήτων της στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο καθώς και η εμπιστοσύνη που η εταιρεία έχει επιδείξει στην Κυπριακή Σημαία δημιουργούν προϋποθέσεις για περαιτέρω ενίσχυση της συνεργασίας, η οποία θα επιφέρει σημαντικά οφέλη τόσο για την Κυπριακή Ναυτιλία αλλά ευρύτερα και στην εδραίωση της Κύπρου ως κέντρο ποιοτικής κρουαζιέρας γεγονός που ενισχύει περαιτέρω το τουριστικό μας προϊόν, συμβάλλοντας ουσιαστικά στην οικονομία του τόπου.
Η βελτίωση του ναυτιλιακού μας προϊόντος και η ενίσχυση των κινήτρων και της εξυπηρέτησης μας, όπως σχεδιάστηκε και υλοποιείται μέσα από την εθνική Στρατηγική “SEA Change 2030”, έχουν θέσει γερές βάσεις για ένα ευοίωνο μέλλον για την Κυπριακή Ναυτιλία».
