At the initiative of Cyprus Travel Writers & Journalists Society, the president and the vice president of our Association, Phivos Nicolaides and George Michaelides respectively, met today 24th September, 2024 in the Head Office of Deputy Ministry of Tourism with Dr Nicoletta Paphitou, Tourism Officer A’, Special Interests to discuss possible ways of collaboration for two projects.
First, the possible organization of FIJET Annual Congress in Cyprus 2025 having in mind the special schemes for international conferences and events subsidies, seeking financial support and partial funding. FIJET Congress takes place once a year in different countries and cities/venues. In addition to various festivities, it provides an opportunity for participants to get acquainted with the traditions and culture of the host country.
Dr Nicoletta Paphitou was more than eager to explain in detail the main requirements and conditions in order to apply financial support under the subsidy of international conferences special scheme.
Second, the possibility of cooperation in promoting the project for the “La Pomme d’Or” or “The Golden Apple” which is the FIJET equivalent of the Oscar in tourism. This award for excellence is presented each year to an organization, country, city, or person in recognition of superior efforts in promoting and raising the level of tourism. Since it was established in 1970, The FIJET Golden Apple Award has been presented to 45 recipients. This distinguished award, for excellence, presented in 1987 to “Laiki Gitonia” of Nicosia city.
