THE IMPORTANCE OF MARCO POLO AWARDS
13th Annual Marco Polo Award Ceremony, held in Zagreb, Croatia on 17th of DecemberTraditional 13th Marco Polo Award Ceremony 2023 for the best travel reportages is held in Zagreb, Croatia. The Marco Polo Event is held in the great Advent atmosphere. We are happy that Fijet international members are with us: Tijani Haddad, the President, Delal and Esra Atamdede, from Turkey, Sissi Munz from Austria, Kiran Marahatta from USA, Jacques Campe from France and Adisa Kusundzija, Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are accepted by Tourist Office Zagreb, the sponsor of their stay. As you probably know, every year Fijet Croatia coordinates journalists from different countries and associations to join us at this main Fijet Croatia Event. The Event brings together guests of honor, guests, sponsors, partners, awarded journalists, Fijet international tourism journalists and many Fijet Croatian journalists and members.
The role of awards and public recognition is important. Awards do not only acknowledge success, they recognise many other qualities. An media award helps a winner stand out for excellence in the media industry, given the contributions and impact awards that have on journalists, especially regional, local tourism. The Fijet Journalists Award Committee, composed by respectable Croatian journalists Ante Gavranovic, Zeljko Zutelija, Hrvoje Zovko, Jadranka Rilovic, Marija Baric have recognized excellent achievements in travel journalism in Croatia, selecting and awarding the best coleagues and making a great job.The first prize Marko Polo Grand Prix for domestic travel articles is given to the Editor in Chief journalist VESNA JURIC RUKAVINA For outstanding contribution to tourism journalism and a series of reports about Croatia on Croatian Radio, Radio Sljeme in the show „Prstom po globusu“( Finger Globe Map Pointing).
The first prize Marco Polo Grand Prix for international journalist , is given to Sissi Munz, Austria for the best stories about Egypt as a host country for Fijet Congress held in 2022.
Five medals „Marco Polo“ went to domestic journalists for the excellence, to journalists who published travel articles, stories of Croatian regions, people, customs and traditions, undiscovered and interesting destinations, to be used by tourism professionals as an incentive for new content, tourism offer or as motivation for tourists and media promotion of new tourism products and content, specially in the new trends and conditions of tourism future.Awarded journalists are: Filip Filković Krnić and Tomislav Krnić, producer Tamara Babun, for the best and unusualbest and unusual visionary agrarian stories throughout Croatia, in documentary series „DULUM ZEMLJE“, published on Croatian TV; LANA MINDOLJEVIĆ for the reportage about Imotski, and underrated Mediterranean town without the sea, but captivates with its charm, beauty and magical nature., published on the portal „Putni kofer“ („Travel Luggage“); HRVOJE DEČAK for the report about Križevci, published in the magazine „Meridijani“ („Meridian“; KARMEN LEVAR for the documentary film „Bil je, ni ga, opet će prit!“, about the carnival customs and the preservation of the cultural tradition of the town Novi Vinodolski and CROATIA AIRLINES Inflight Magazine for „Život grada“ ( „Life in the City“) publications with an emphasis on beauty, events and life in Zagreb.
Five special recognitions were given toJournalists who extraordinary contributed to Croatian travel journalism and Croatia culture,nature and heritage : EDO POPOVIC and KRUNOSLAV RAC for the books about Velebit Mountain (National Park and Nature Park), LUXURY LIVING CROATIA Magazine ( for contribution to promotion of luxury destinations in Croatia), ZDENKA KOVACICEK and MIRO UNGAR for extraordinary contribution to unique and urban music in Croatia.In 2020 Fijet Croatia launched the award for the Tolerance, to those who champion and live tolerance within their communities and across the globe as a means of fostering intercultural communication, underscoring the importance of tolerance open dialogue achieving world peace based on universal human values. Fijet Tolerance Award 2023 was given to ZELJKO MARUSIC, the Editor in Chief & journalist of OTV TV Show “Zeljko and Guests“. We would like to take a minute and congratulate all the winners of Marco Polo for the well deserved awards.
