Tourism in Cyprus is not entirely a recent phenomenon. While it is true that tourism has developed at an unprecedented rate since the island’s independence in 1960, the arrival of foreign visitors in Cyprus dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, from which time we can glean the first information on Cyprus hotels.
The establishment of the Cyprus Hotel Association: George Skyrianides rallied all the Cypriot hoteliers behind him in a drive to establish an independent, professional association which would embody, represent and promote the interests of hoteliers on an organized basis. As a result of Skyrianide’s efforts, the Cyprus Hotel Association was established on March 25th, 1941 and he was elected as its first president. He served as president of the Association until 1970.

Το Ιστορικό του Παγκύπριου Συνδέσμου Ξενοδόχων 1941 – 1992: Ο τουρισμός στην Κύπρο δεν είναι πρόσφατο φαινόμενο. Μπορεί να γνώρισε τη μεγάλη ακμή και ανάπτυξή του μετά την κυπριακή ανεξαρτησία, αλλά η παρουσία ξένων στο νησί χρονολογείται από τις αρχές του αιώνα μας, τότε ακριβώς που αντλούμε και τις πρώτες πληροφορίες για τα κυπριακά ξενοδοχεία.
Ίδρυση του Παγκύπριου Συνδέσμου Ξενοδόχων: Σαν αποτέλεσμα των προσπαθειών και των ενεργειών του Γεώργιου Η. Σκυριανίδη, στις 25 Μαρτίου 1941 ιδρύεται ο Παγκύπριος Σύνδεσμος Ξενοδόχων, τον οποίον υπηρέτησε ως πρόεδρος από την ίδρυσή του μέχρι το 1970.
