A stroll in old Nicosia: “In the footsteps of History”
Commemorating World Tourism Day 2021, the Cyprus Travel Writers and Journalists Society organized a guided tour in the picturesque streets of Nicosia within the walls for its members and friends.
The afternoon walk began at the Holy Church of Phaneromeni, the biggest Orthodox monument in old Nicosia and ended up at the Omeriye Mosque, which is also the biggest Moslem monument, in medieval times the Monastery of Santa Maria of the Augustine Order.
In between, the party stopped at the oldest Girls’ School of Nicosia and at the site where the Papadopoulos Cinema used to stand until the early sixties, a small replica of the famous Scala of Milan opera theatre.
